Akonnor was relieved of his duties together with his two assistant coaches on Monday 13th September after a dismal run of form in the two opening games of the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana won 1-0 against Ethiopia in a game which was uninspiring and had to take a gift of a goal to give Ghana all three points but wee found out as they lost 1-0 to South Africa in Johannesburg.
A three-member committee led by Ghana FA Vice Chairman Mark Addo has been tasked to appoint a new coach in the next 72 hours.
In an interview with Sunyani-based Space FM, he said, “How could the Exco set up a three-member committee to find a new coach for the National team without the Technical Director of the FA”
“This is absolutely useless and I have never seen or heard this before”
“The decision taken by the GFA Exco to terminate Coach CK Akonnor' contract is senseless and baseless”
“The GFA President said it on Joy FM that this time round Exco would be involved in the coach's selection, so why do u sack the coach alone when things get out of hand,” he said. Read Full Story
