The apology and a retraction is about a call by the service to the general public, through a press release dated, May 26, 2013 requesting for offer information about Mr. Alale’s whereabouts for arrest and prosecution.
He was accused of assisting a car-smuggling syndicate at the Aflao border and smuggling into the country 15 Chinese nationals through unapproved routes in the Volta Region.
“The said press release generated publications in the media on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 and alluded to the fact that he was a rogue and a recalcitrant officer who was on the run and under investigation by the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority,” the GIS Head of Public Affairs, Supt. Michael Amoako-Atta, indicated in a statement.
He added, “The GIS, by this statement, renders an unqualified apology to him, his immediate and extended families as well as associates for the embarrassment this unfortunate action may have caused him in the eyes of right thinking members of the society.
