Don Bortey became a household name during his active days with Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak with his artistry and deadly set pieces.
He helped Hearts of Oak to win a lot of laurels including multiple Ghana Premier League titles and CAF Inter-club titles, the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
Despite making a name for himself domestically, Bortey had unsuccessful spells outside the shores of Ghana as he was unable to make the cut in European due to bad agents according to him.
Speaking in an interview, he revealed that his first trails abroad was made possible by the late Alhjai Sly Tetteh.
“I went for my first trails at Ajax when I was 17-years old”.
“It was Alhaji Sly Tetteh who took me there. Everything went well at the trails. Just that I couldn’t sign for them due to some one or two reasons. So I had to return to Ghana and join GHAPOHA”. Read Full Story
