The former President and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been criticizing the Akufo-Addo led administration for various efforts being put in place to fight the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
A recent comment by the former President said: “Unfortunately, this government has used a lot of propaganda saying the economy has been the best that we have ever had since independence. Unfortunately, just one month of coronavirus, the economy is in ICU. If we didn’t run to the IMF for the one billion rapid credit facility, it is possible that in the next month, probably, salaries would not have been paid and, so, our economy is on ventilators, and it needs thinking to rescue it from the ICU”.
Reacting to this on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said government is focused and determined to win the 'war' against COVID-19; hence they will not be distracted.
According to him even though comments made by the NDC and its flagbearer deserve some form of reaction, 'government declines'.
He said NPP as a political party can respond but for government, 'this is not the time'.
"We decline the invitation to get into politics, as the President said this is not the time for politics; there will be time for that but for now if we mix it with other things we will lose focus . . . inasmuch as it is very tempting, we will not succumb. In their time there was a major crisis; energy crisis which they were not able to solve but I don’t want us to go there . . . it is not helpful to do politics; we need to win this battle . . . for now, we are focused," he intimated.
