
According to the Ghanaian film producer and director who is based in America, she would have won a mainstream Oscar award by now if she had a British accent. Speaking on Hitz FM, Leila said she then had to change her accent to aide her career.
In a video seen by pulse.com.gh she explained that the moment people hear someone has an African accent, they immediately begin to doubt the impact and worth of what the person has to offer.
“Look if my accent was British, I probably have won mainstream Oscars already but because my accent is African,” she said. The award-winning movie filmmaker has also advised actors who want to cross borders to also try to learn foreign accents because that will be beneficial to their careers.
