Nana Yaw Owusu was of the belief that the regular changing of coaches by Kotoko’s management affects team-building and also does not allow for continuity to ensure a formidable side.
Expressing concern about what he described as ‘experimentation of coaches in Kotoko’ since Dr Kwame Kyei’s appointment as the Executive Chairman three years ago, Nana Yaw Owusu said the frequent changes of coaches had not only had an adverse effect on the proficient development of players, but had also prevented the club from maintaining a good form to be very competitive at the continental level.
“The experimentation of coaches should cease forthwith after the endorsement of Maxwell Konadu as the head coach of Kotoko last Monday. The new coach should be supported to run his full term .
“This is because he is a well-known personality as a player and coach of Kotoko. He is a down to earth, experienced, and a good tactician, so he should be encouraged to deliver and improve the standard of Kotoko at both the local and international levels,” Nana Yaw Owusu advised during an interview with Graphic Sports Online.
“The current management board chairman, Dr Kyei, knew very little about the game of football when he was appointed three years ago, but interestingly within this short time he has managed to keep the club at the top in Ghana.
His biggest challenge, however, is the frequent changing of coaches. Within the last three years, the club has seen four coaches who come and leave the same way,” he lamented.
“Before a new coach is signed, management should be satisfied that the character being signed will satisfy all the requirements.
"After their engagement, the club should let the contract run its full term, except in irregular circumstances,” he stressed.
