The comment follows critics’ view that the president had no legal right to call off the referendum.
According to him, everything done in parliament is done legally and it is legal for the president to call off every bill presented to parliament.
“It is legal that anytime the president wants to call off a bill, he does so without the consent of anyone. He doesn’t need to inform anyone before he does it, “he said.
“What we are doing is legal and the president has all the right to call it off because it was a bill he presented to parliament, and parliament passed it to the Counsel of State to investigate and then to Electoral Commission to start the process,” he told Accra-based Peace FM, monitored by Adomonline.com.
“The president said in the Nation’s Address that he could have gotten a ‘Yes vote if he gave his party the go ahead to campaign for it but he didn’t want a ‘Yes’ vote without a national consensus. He said that he didn’t want something that was for the whole nation to be decided by him and a particular group of people and that was why he had to call off the referendum,” he added.
