This comes after he filed a question in Parliament asking the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Gloria Akuffo to update the House on the status of the investigations on the former GFA boss.
Madam Akuffo, in response, blamed the death of a principal witness in the case, Ahmed Suale for the delay of the prosecution, and assured that the case will be sent to court for hearing in the next two weeks.
She said: “Mr. Speaker, we are dotting our ‘Is’ and crossing our ‘Ts.’ Give and take, a week or a fortnight, the matter may be presented but I need say that the filing is in our control but the fixing and actual presentation is with the control of the court.”
However, Mohammed Abdul Aziz speaking to Citi News expressed dissatisfaction with the answers given, saying that they come as proof of the Attorney General having no interest in prosecuting the matter.
“For you to receive a docket from CID, and you would say you’re unable to go to court a full one year, you’re transcribing and reviewing transcripts for twelve months only points to some disinterest in prosecuting the matter. But even going beyond that, the Minister in her answer indicated that Ahmed Suale was murdered on the 16th of May 2019. That is actually inaccurate. And so it shows you the level of interest and commitment [in the case],” he bemoaned.
Mohammed Abdul Aziz previously made this demand for the Attorney General to report to Parliament with the updates a few weeks ago, with the belief that the Ghanaian people deserved to have that information on the case.
“The AG works hand in hand with the CID and so she should be in the position to tell us if they have finished investigations and if there is any docket on that matter. I just want to hear what the AG will say about it because she is the legal advisor to the president,” he stated.
Background
Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in 2018 released a documentary that exposed corruption in football administration in Ghana and other African countries.
In the #Number12 exposé, ex-president of the Ghana Football Association was seen illegally requesting for various sums of money from investigators disguised as investors, using the name of President Akufo-Addo, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and some other top government officials.
President Akufo-Addo then directed the Police to investigate Kwesi Nyantakyi for a possible crime of fraud.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) as part of its investigations, seized mobile phones and laptops of the embattled football administrator as he was formally charged with defrauding by false pretence.
Ahmed Suale murdered A member of Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Tiger Eye PI Ahmed Hussein-Suale, was allegedly killed by two gunmen on a motorbike who shot into the car he was driving at Madina in Accra.
This came after he was notably exposed by Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong in the aftermath of the documentary on corruption in Ghana football.
Anas, in a message on Facebook, announced the death of his colleague, saying Ahmed was shot three times; twice in the chest and once in the neck following which he died on the spot. In the video, he sought to link comments made by Kennedy Agyapong to the murder.
Ahmed was a key member of the team that uncovered corruption in Ghana football in July 2018.
He is reported to have been at the forefront of the meeting with the disgraced GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, who was the biggest casualty of the exposé.
