The NDC at a news conference on Tuesday accused President Akufo-Addo of running a family and friends’ government, after criticizing the previous NDC administration of same.
The party put out a list of people serving in various positions in government who are allegedly related to the President, the Vice President or some of the President’s appointees.
The party even called for the enactment of a law to stop such nepotism in government.
“The enactment of anti-nepotism legislation to help check abuse of power in the advancement of the nepotistic agenda of President Akufo-Addo, his appointees and any unforeseen recurrence is long overdue in Ghana,” the NDC’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi had said.
The National Youth Organizer of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, said the NDC could have done better.
“The people of the Volta Region, also have their children going to secondary school for free. Indeed out of the 1.2 million students currently enjoying Senior High School, it is estimated that the 100,000 of these numbers are from the Volta Region. They saw how the NHIS scheme after the NPP cleared the over 1 billion debt. Farmers in the Volta Region are major beneficiaries of the Planting For Food and Jobs policy. They have seen some of their young graduates being enrolled on NABCO and I keep saying that as the National Youth Organiser, NABCO is a life-saving policy.
“This is the change the nation voted for in 2016 and this is the change that the 16 regions of Ghana are planning to maintain and improve upon. This is because we are first to admit that there is a lot more work ahead of us. Ghana needs a President who enjoys doing the job. Not the one who just enjoys the benefits of the office as we saw with John Dramani Mahama. We are challenging the NDC that we want policy-based, ideas-based arguments, not ranting or making noise.”
