Legal Director, Victor Kwesi Opeku swore in the staff including the Deputy Country Head, Henry Abogya Sersah; Director of Media/PR, Richard Ocloo-Dzaba; Director Admin, Gilbert Addo, Head of International Affairs, Eunice Afari, Head of Finance and his personal assistants and Head of Research and other Heads.
Others were Directors, SDG ambassadors, goodwill ambassadors, Regional Coordinators & Deputies, Counselling Team and the Peace and Security team.
The newly sworn in staff are expected to help facilitate the United Nations agenda on the youth which prescribes the inclusion of the youth in decision making at all levels and the promotion of the sustainable development goals, SDGs.
Country Head of United Nations Youth Ghana, Lilian Sally Addo said the United Nations Youth Ghana organization will use its influence to push and advocate for the youth to get involved in the decision making process to ensure that their voices are heard.
“The youth must begin to talk, get involved at all levels,” said the country head, adding that every youth must be part of the UN Youth Ghana. “We have a vision that every youth in Ghana will be part of the UN Youth Ghana because Ghana is a member of the United Nations.”
Miss Sally also called on various youth advocacy centered organizations to come forward and partner the UN Youth Ghana to achieve this goal.
A patron of the organization and CEO and MD of Golden Beach Hotel Abena Pokuaa Amoah Boaitey who congratulated the newly sworn in staff tasked them to ensure that their core duties including training and leading young people and serving as role models as well as empowering them, are achieved.
The Patron who reminded staff of the need to observe the organization’s code of ethics however expressed satisfaction at the capabilities of staff and their commitment to successfully execute the goals and agenda of the UN Youth Ghana.
She also urged the youth to support the efforts of the ambassadors.
Renowned actor, Patrick Sarfo known in showbiz circles as Teacher Kofi who is also a goodwill ambassador for United Nations Youth Ghana and Founder of Holy Palace Chapel International is already championing the goals and agenda of the UN Youth Ghana.
Patrick Sarfo who also is Head of goodwill ambassadors and the SDG ambassadors in UN Youth Ghana said he and other members of the organization were committed to championing the organization in fulfilling its core objectives of promoting peace and security.
He said the organization thrives on existing structures to preach the peace and security message, adding that the group would through its wide network of ambassadors, volunteers and other staff, drive its goals and agenda.
Another goodwill ambassador, Ali Ajami whose foundation helps the youth and young people said he would bring the activities of the group to bear on the UN youth Ghana.
Ali who commended the activities of the UN Youth Ghana organization towards the youth and various communities and society in general as part of its agenda towards fulfilling the SDGs said he would commit his contribution, in kind and in material to assist the group to achieve its set targets.
Also present at the ceremony were Patrons & Directors of UN Youth Ghana.
The UN youth Ghana is a non-profit making civil society organization that seeks among other goals to model the UN agenda on youth and pursuing resolution 22(50) of the UN which states among others that the youth must be included in decision making at all levels and the promotion of the sustainable development goals, SDGs.
The UN Youth organization is targeting a large number of youth groups needing particular and specific interventions. These include tertiary and Senior High School students, unemployed youth, young men and women, youth on drugs & alcohol, youth from different racial groups, etc.
From the description of Youth from United Nations perspective with a global population of over 1.8 billion people, the youth are the world’s greatest untapped resource, possessing the talents and ambition to overcome society’s biggest challenges.
