Joy Sports Owuraku Ampofo monitored Ghanaian players across Europe over the weekend, highlighting the top five performers.
Christian Atsu - Newcastle United
The Newcastle winger started his second Premier League game of the season. He began the game on a good note as he set up Jetro Williems for the opening goal of the game.
Atsu looked confident and energetic all game as he particularly enjoyed the first 30 minutes. Unfortunately, his attempted Cruyff turn in the middle of the park was intercepted in the middle of the park and Liverpool capitalised and scored their second goal but Atsu apologised after the match.
With two assists in two starts, Atsu will be hoping for more of the same this season.
Baba Rahman – Real Mallorca
After completing a loan move to Mallorca from Chelsea, the Ghana left-back made his debut for the Spanish side on Friday night against Athletic Bilbao in La Liga.
Despite picking up a yellow card, the 25-year-old looked very resolute at the back and contributed to a solid defensive display against Bilbao, who could have gone top of the league with a win.
Rahman replaced Black Stars teammates Lumor Agbenyenu in the Mallorca line-up because of an injury to the latter. All eyes will be on how the two Ghanaians will compete for that left-back spot over the course of the season.
Raphael Dwamena – Real Zaragoza
Real Zaragoza have found their talisman in Dwamena who can’t stop scoring. The man on loan from Levante scored in second straight game for his new club as he continues his prolific start to the season.
Dwamena scored the first goal of the game for Real Zaragoza in a 3-1 win against Extremadura. The Ghanaian striker picked up a yellow card and was later substituted in the 62nd minute.
The 23-year-old has now scored two goals in five appearances for Real Zaragoza and will be hoping for more as the season progresses.
Kwadwo Asamoah – Inter Milan
On top of the table, Kwadwo Asamoah’s Inter Milan have started the Serie A campaign in brilliant fashion.
Nine points from the first three games has impressed quite a number of people.
However, what has been more impressive is how resolute that Inter Milan defence has been, conceding just one goal so far.
Kwadwo Asamoah has been a constant feature of that defence and was at the forefront once again over the weekend against Udinese.
He continued to thrive in the left wing-back role and kept good width whenever Inter Milan were attacking.
Isaac Atanga – FC Nordsjaelland
A name not many people are used to, but Atanga has been making good strides in the Danish League with Nordsjaelland.
He was on the scoresheet once again over the weekend but his goal was not enough as Nordsjaelland lost 4-2 to Brøndby.
The highly rated forward has started all nine league games this season scoring four goals with one assist.
Atanga, 19, will be hoping for a breakthrough in his first season with Nordsjaelland. Read Full Story
