A statement on Hearts Twitter account noted , “Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club has taken the option not to renew the contract of midfielder Malik Akowuah following the expiration of his three-year deal at the club.
“We thank him for his professional service to the club and wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”
Akowuah 30, joined Hearts from Medeama SC in November 2016 with big expectation of manning the club’s midfield role, but he could not live up to the standard expected of him.
However, the midfielder told a Kumasi based radio station, Otec FM, that he opted to move on despite Hearts proposing a renewal.
"My contract with Hearts of Oak has come to an end so they called me asking whether I will renew or not, but I told them I’m satisfied with my services with the club and want to move on with my career," he noted.
"I've gotten many offers from different clubs but I’m yet to decide on my next club. I’ve no issues with the coach (Kim Grant) neither the management. It was a mutual agreement. I’m yet to decide on my future," he added.
