Ivory Coast and Algeria will face off in a clash that will see one of the pre-tournament favourites leave the competition.
It’s the biggest match of the quarterfinals and so we expect the big guys in the two teams to turn up and give fans an exciting experience.
Unlike previous editions where their performances were pretty underwhelming, the Algerians have turned up at this tournament and everything seem to be working in their favour.
Ismael Bennacer has been the force in the midfield ensuring that the team’s transition from defence to attack has been as coherent as possible and its no wonder that the former Arsenal man has won three MoTM awards.
The Elephants have failed to light up this tournament with their galaxy of stars. Nicolas Pepe has failed to live up to the pre-tournament hype and so is Wilfred Zaha but Ivorians back home will be counting on them to beat the Algerians.
Ivory Coast have won a single game more (W3, L2, D2) in their past seven Africa Cup of Nations meetings with Algeria.
Ivory Coast will be playing their 10th match of the stage while this is Algeria is sixth appearance at this stage of the AFCON.
Skipper Serge Aurier is still nursing injury so Mamadou Bagayoko will keep his place at right back for Ivory Coast.
Wilfred Zaha grabbed the all-important goal for the Elephants in their last 16 game so he could keep his place in the team.
Algeria have no suspensions or injury worries so coach Djamel Belmadi will name a familiar starting team with Mahrez leading the side.
