The Directorate has registered a total of 7,377 comprising of 3,425 boys and 3,952 girls from both public and private basic schools to write the one week BECE at 25 centres starting from June 10, 2019.
Mrs Margaret Nsiah-Asamoah, Tema Metropolitan Education Director, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said her outfit as part of preparing the candidates for the examination, had organized a seminar dubbed “meet your candidates” for the students.
Mrs Nsiah-Asamoah said the seminar was used to explain external examination procedures to the candidates who she described as first timers in the exams.
She indicated that they were also educated them on the dos and don’ts of the examination while giving them the necessary encouragement to ensure an incident free exams.
She further said mock examinations for all candidates both from public and private school had also been organized by the Education Directorate especially on mathematics, English, natural science and social studies.
According to her, the Members of Parliament for the various constituencies in the two districts were also conducting separate mock examinations for the candidates.
According to her, after analysis of the mock exams results, officials were able to get the areas that were difficult for the candidates and therefore organizing free early morning classes for the candidates to reteach those topics.
Mrs Nsiah-Asamoah stated that invigilators and supervisors who would be in-charge of the exams had also received the necessary training adding that the designated centres were safe places that would not flood.
She gave the assurance that adequate measures had been put in place for candidates from the Tetteh Ocloo States School for the Deaf at Adjei Kojo adding that other candidates with some form of disability would have to inform the Directorate for a request to be made to the West Africa Examination Centre (WAEC) for the necessary arrangements to be made for the comfort of the candidate.
On the issue of private schools camping candidates at their school premises in preparation for the exams, she stated that her outfit inspected schools that wrote to seek permission from the directorate.
She said education officials inspected the place the candidates would sleep, sanitary conditions and other facilities before approval. Read Full Story
