Lawson (27-1, 21 KOs), believes his chances of earning an emphatic victory upon his return to the ring after 10 months are brighter following an intense training schedule.
Though the 29-year-old is anticipating a tougher opponent with a rich experience in Ruiz , he was confident of his own strength and capability, describing the bout as a ‘career revival’ towards a world title chase by next year.
In an interview with the Graphic Sports from his Utah base in the USA, Lawson explained that his quest to conquer the world would start from Ruiz's fight, and that he was keen on ensuring a convincing victory on March 30.
"I am looking forward to a convincing victory over Ruiz on my debut fight on Top Rank. It is not going to be easy but I am confident of an emphatic victory.
"With the preparation I'm having, I believe I will be in the best of shape to defeat my opponent. This is a fight which will kick start my quest to conquer the world in my division," he said.
Having been inactive for close to a year, Lawson needs to work harder to regain his fitness against the 32-year-old Ruiz who has won only once in his last five bouts.
Lawson will be hoping to make it four wins on the trot, having dispatched the likes of Sakima Mullings, Fidel Munoz and Baishanbo Nasiyiwula in his last three fights.
When asked whether he would be targeting a knockout victory against Ruiz (21-4, 13 KOs), Lawson said his focus was to win emphatically but would take the opportunity should the need arise.
Meanwhile, Ruiz on the other hand will be keen on returning to winning ways against Lawson, having lost four fights in his last five bouts since 2017.
The Venezuela’s only win in the last two years was against Marcos Urquidez last July, and he will be returning to the ring on the back of two consecutive losses to Sergey Lubkovich and Carlos Adames Read Full Story
