Speaking at the 62nd Independence Day Celebration in Tamale, the President said there should be no room for violence in the country’s electoral process.
“There should be no room for violence in our electoral process. It should be a contest of ideas that seek to win the hearts of our people,” he said.
His comment comes after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described his response to its letter on the impending political vigilantism dialogue as depressing and pedestrian.
The party said it was amazed by the President’s response to recommendations it made on how to end vigilantism in the country, in a letter dated February 28, 2019.
The President said he saw “little basis” for some of the requests made by the NDC.
But speaking at the Independence Day parade at Tamale, the President said Ghanaians did not deserve to be toyed with, adding that the very concept of political violence is “offensive and shames us all who are in politics”.
He said: “We all agree that the form of government that we want to conduct our affairs should be a multi-party democracy”.
