The Independence fight championed by the first president of the country, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah made Ghana then Gold Coast the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to gain independence.
Since independence in 1957, the country has celebrated her liberation every year in Accra, the capital.
This year, the Nana Akufo-Addo-led government decided to move the Independence celebration to the Northern Region capital, Tamale.
According to the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, moving the 62nd Independence celebration to the Northern Region is a way to deepen the peace and harmony that has returned to the region after several years since the death of the Ya Na.
