ACEP submits that GHc1 million worth of petroleum products smuggled into the country were confiscated by state security showing how dangerous the thriving business is to revenue mobilization.
ACEP’s Executive Director, Benjamin Boakye stated Ghana’s fisher folks are increasingly engaging in the smuggling of petroleum products where discharges are done by larger vessels on sea whereupon the fisher folks ferry the products to the shore and clandestinely sell.
He said given the expansive shoreline of the country, it makes patrolling difficult but more resources had to be dedicated to curbing the growing menace which leads to broken down vehicles and extra cost of repair because of the poor fuel as well as eroding government’s revenge generation goals.
