Mr Rawlings said the murder of Hussein-Suale must not remain unresolved because it has implications on the wider safety of citizens.
In a tweet Saturday, Mr Rawlings also supported calls by President Akufo-Addo and other opinion leaders for a swift and conclusive investigation.
Hussein-Suale was assassinated at Madina by two unidentified gunmen on a motorbike while driving at Madina in Accra.
His last investigative assignment was Number12 (#12), a documentary that exposed bribery and corruption in African football which resulted in the resignation of former Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi.
He was buried last Friday in Accra.
