Political saboteurs behind KNUST chaos – Abronye

The Brong Ahafo Regional 1st Vice Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe, known as Abronye DC, has taken a swipe at individuals he believes are behind the chaos at the Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

He has described happenings at the university as attempts to take attention away from the success of the Akufo-Addo led-government.

According to him, the implementation of the conversion of the school’s single-sex halls to mixed ones under the Akufo-Addo government is just a way of making Akufo-Addo unpopular.

To Abronye DC, the mixed hall implementation has brought confusion since there were signs of resistance some 5 years ago, “yet the management under the leadership of Professor Obiri-Danso failed to engage all the relevant stakeholders before introducing the policy.

“This decision has been there since the PV Obeng leadership and they never implemented it. The NDC failed to implement it because they didn’t want their government to have issues but rather the council quickly implemented it just to sabotage Akufo-Addo. Some people are behind the chaos, trust me,” he said.

Abronye DC was speaking on Adom TV’s morning show Badwam Friday.

The government on Thursday dissolved the KNUST Governing Council.

The government took the action following the recent student’s riot and the destruction of properties including over 30 vehicles at the KNUST which has led to the school’s closure.

The Interim Council, chaired by Nana Effah Apenteng, Paramount Chief of the Bompata Traditional Area, has a three-month tenure.

This follows briefs and recommendations made by the Minister for Education, Hon. Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh after he led a high powered delegation including the Minister for National Security, Hon. Albert Kan Dapaah and the Minister-Designate for Information, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah to Kumasi.

But Abronye DC expressed delight that measures have been instituted to address the students’ grievances.

The NPP Man lauded the swift action by government to ensure that the students return to campus within 14 days following the shutdown of the institution.
