The students in protest of what they described as “oppression from school authorities,” destroyed school property and set fire to a number of vehicles.
As many as 30 cars were destroyed in the protest that has led to the indefinite closure of the university.
Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Tuesday, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Akwesi Mensah Duku said the police, during the protest, arrested the 20 students.
However, due to the closure of the university, they have been cautioned and granted bail, pending investigations.
DCOP Mensah Duku said a combined team of police and military personnel are in the school to ensure every student vacates the university’s premises by midday.
He stressed that only international students will remain and security will be provided for them.
DCOP Mensah Duku added that a team of heavily armed police and military personnel has also been deployed to the school as a 6am to 6pm curfew begins to take effect.
