It’s expected that a Fifa/CAF delegation will visit the country in the coming days to assess the suitability of the names proposed by the Government of Ghana(GoG) for the Normalization Committee and its membership. This would pave the way for the re-organization of the Ghana Football moving forward.
Highlighting a letter dated 27th of August from Fifa vis a vis the football reform exercise, Mr Oppong Nkrumah noted “Once the GFA statutes meets the requirements of Fifa and CAF, this Normalization committee will organize and conduct elections of the GFA Executive Committee on the basis of the GFA revised statutes.”
Meanwhile, he said that the World football governing body[Fifa] has withdrawn with immediate effect the notice of its ban against GFA.
He disclosed this to the media on Tuesday after the government officially withdrew the court action to liquidate the Ghana Football Association.
The future of Ghana Football was on the cusp following a 10-day ultimatum issued by FIFA to government to discontinue its petition to have the GFA dissolved, or face a ban from football. In FIFA’s view, the move constituted “government interference”
But a Press release issued following a hurriedly arranged meeting with Fifa in Zurich, stated that “the GoG shall take steps to discontinue the process for the winding up of the Ghana Football Association.”
The Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo, went to court last month with a petition to liquidate the FA because the Ghana Football Association was not fit for the purpose for which it was established. This followed the football crisis after the Number 12 documentary by undercover investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, months ago.
