Kenya hatching plans to beat Black Stars

Kenyans are planning to use their fans as their 12th player on the pitch to defeat the Black Stars during their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on September 8.

Accordingly, the president of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), Nick Mwendwa, has called on the fans to massively turn up to the stadium to support the Harambee Stars to victory.

“Coach (Sébastien) Migné has already made his selection. The team will hit camp on Monday next week and we are hoping that we will get a positive result against Ghana. I am thus calling on fans to turn out in large numbers to support the Harambee Stars,” said Mwendwa.

Out of the total of seven matches played between the two teams, the Black Stars have won four, drawn two and lost one.

The first time the two teams played was an Independence Tournament on September 30, 1964 which Ghana won 7-1. A month later Ghana repeated the same scoreline in an international friendly against the same side.

Kenya’s heaviest defeat to the Black Stars came a year later when they lost 13-2 in an international friendly on December 10 before drawing 3-3 in the return leg three days later.

The only victory for the Harambee Stars came in 2003 when they beat the Black Stars 3-2 in another international friendly with their last clash against Ghana ending in a 2-2 draw.

From their previous records against the Black Stars, it has become clear that the only way they can beat the Ghanaians is to ensure the fans come to rally behind them and that explains why Mwendwa wants the fans come and support them.

Ghana who are scheduled to camp in Addis Ababa for this game, sit on the summit of Group F with three points alongside Sierra Leone while Kenya and Ethiopia share the bottom spot of the table without a point. Read Full Story
