Korle-Bu workers’ protests 'not appropriate thing to do' - Health Ministry

The Ministry of Health has acknowledged protesters outraged over the removal of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital’s CEO Felix Kwaku Anyah.

Robert Cudjoe, head of communications at the Health Ministry, told Joy FM that the demonstrations are unnecessary and warned they should cease protests.

“If you are resorting to demonstrations and ultimatums, that is not the appropriate thing to do,” he said.

Following Anyah’s termination, the workers have issued a three-day ultimatum to authorities requesting an explanation of Anyah’s termination.


“He is a loving CEO and unlike others we have had in the past, Dr. Anyaa has the interest of the hospital at heart and is not looting our coffers like some of his predecessors,” one protester said.

Another worker agreed. “Dr. Anyaa has brought stability and championed development at Korle Bu so we do not understand why he has been given the boot.”

President Akufo-Addo fired Anyah Wednesday, along with three other executives including Paul Asare Ansah, Director General of Ghana Ports and Habours Authority; Gifty Klenam, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Export Promotion Authority and Alfred Obeng Boateng, the Managing Director of Bulk Oil Storage and Transport Company. The Health Ministry appointed Anyah one year ago. He followed the removal of Gilbert Buckle.

At the time of Anyah’s appointment, president of the Korle Bu Senior Staff Association (KOSSA) expressed assurance in Anyah’s abilities to serve as the facility’s head.

“Looking at his background, and his knowledge in healthcare delivery, we believe strongly that he can turn Korle-Bu around, and so we are hoping to work with him to bring Korle-Bu to the standard we all want it to be,” he told Citi News.

Reasons behind Anyah’s termination are unclear, although some speculate it could have been due to his age. Anyah is 67 years old. Read Full Story
