According to him, Dr Obeng Andoh’s registration expired in 2013 and has since not been able to renew it, adding that “as we speak now, Dr Obeng Andoh of Obengfo Hospital does not have a valid registration to be able to practice medicine or dentistry in Ghana.”
Dr Atikpui told Kasapa News that the Medical and Dental Council cannot be blamed for Dr Obengfo’s illegal operation as the Council has succeeded in closing down that hospital twice.
“It isn’t that the Council is toothless, we’ve done our part. We’ve caused the institution to be closed down on two occasions and the institution for whatever reason was reopened. We have reported the matter to the appropriate state agencies to really take up the matter because the Medical and Dental Council does not arrest or prosecute. We played our role, as we speak, the docket of that case is with the Attorney General.”
Stacy’s tragic death
The mother of Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship Innovation Programme (NEIP), Stacy Offei Darko, Nana Akosua Animah told Kwaku Owusu Agyei host of Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa FM Monday that her 37-year-old daughter had just returned home from abroad.
The deceased, according to her mother complained of feeling very tired on Sunday and went to the Obengfo Hospital in Accra for medical attention.
Two days later, Animah said after not getting through to her daughter on phone, she became alarmed as all her calls went unanswered. She added that a nurse eventually picked up Stacy’s phone and informed her that her daughter was in critical condition after having a bad reaction from an injection. The nurse advised her to call her daughter the following day, but instead, Aminah says, she decided to go to the hospital in the company of her driver.
Animah said upon arrival Dr Obeng-Andoh hit her with the bad news that her daughter was dead. Without her knowledge and consent, her daughter’s body was transported to a morgue and embalmed. She said it took her 24 hours to find her daughter’s body.
The Medical and Dental Council closed down Obengfo Hospital at Weija for operating illegally in 2017.
