The use of unqualified players has resulted in legal matters that have threatened to derail football progress in the past.
The 2018 Ghana Premier League season was delayed for several weeks as a result of a mix up in the recording of yellow cards by a referee.
The situation led to Elmina Sharks and Bechem United fielding an unqualified player without even being aware, before Great Olympics took them to court for the purported crime.
Briefing the media at the GFA headquarters on Monday, Communications Director of the FA, Ibrahim Sannie Daara confirmed that they have adopted a software that will automatically block out players who have accumulated yellow cards to ease the tracking of such cases.
“The new system we have ensures that all the competitions are linked to each other, where previously it was difficult because communication between the different competitions was poor,” he said.
“So if a player receives a yellow card in the FA Cup and then in the league, the software automatically blocks out the player’s name from the team sheets. This way both the club officials and the FA will know who exactly is ineligible to play.
