The institution was established during the PNDC era in 1984, at a time when Sports was on a general decline in the country.
The main mandate of the College was to train and retrain individuals in various technical fields to sustain and help promote sports in the country.
Between the time of its establishment till date, various promises to renovate the facility have been made but have never come to fruition including a million dollar PPP agreement between the NDC government and the World Bank in 2011 to provide a face-lift.
That agreement according to Citi Sports sources is still under review by the current Ministry of Youth and Sports but is is unlikely to be carried out following the failure of the state to fulfill its part of the deal which was to put up part of the money.
The long wait might be over if the word of Eric Nkansah Dwamena,the Director,is anything to go by.
“There are a lot of measures to put the place in shape.
“At the moment I have gone for sponsorship and we are hoping to take it step by step.
“We are tackling the dining and the kitchen area after which we will go to the guest house and then the main building,” he disclosed. Read Full Story
