NDC has no hand in electoral misfortunes of CPP - Koku Anyidoho

A Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Koku Anyidoho, has said it is an erroneous impression that the NDC had contributed to the abysmal electoral performance of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) because its members had joined forces with the NDC.

He indicated that CPP members who joined the NDC did so on their own volition and conviction and not on the promptings of the NDC saying “the NDC did not have any tradition”.

Speaker’s claims

The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye during the Founder’s Day lecture stated that the CPP was struggling to make a good show in the country’s electoral contest because its members had joined the NDC which, he said, did not have any tradition.

Prof. Oquaye further stated during the lecture that the CPP was struggling and indicated that if the party wanted to make a mark in Ghana’s electoral contest, it should wean itself off the NDC.

UP outlawed CPP

Reacting to the claims, Mr Anyidoho described the Speaker’s statement as coming from an actor trying in vain to stir his audience into laughter not by facts but by fury and sound.

He debunked Prof. Oquaye’s claims and insisted that the UP tradition rather went ahead to destroy Nkrumah’s books, his effigies and the paraphernalia of the CPP, as well as industries and projects set up by Dr Nkrumah’s government.

The Deputy General Secretary said attempts to distort Ghana’s history to eulogise Dr J. B. Danquah and make Nkrumah less important in the history of Ghana will definitely fail because there is evidence in the constitution of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) to confirm that the late Paa Grant founded, financed and served as the President of the UGCC while Danquah was the Vice-President of the UGCC in charge of the Eastern Region.

He called on the government to concentrate its efforts on redeeming its promises instead of seeking a lee way to tinker with the history of Ghana because all progressive forces would resist such attempt . Read Full Story
