The GAF organized an open armwrestling championship in the bid to form the Ghana national armwrestling team to raise the nation’s flag at the international championship slated for June 28th to July 2nd in Lagos.
The open championship saw arm-wrestlers from various walks of life converge to the Accra Sports Stadium on the 22 April to test their arm strength. Notable among these were arm wrestlers from the Ghana Revenue Authority, Ghana Police Service and Ghana Immigration Service.
The events competed in include: 80kg, 65kg, 70kg for both men and women; 55kg + for women and 90kg and 110kg for men. The 3 top winners for each event were awarded with medals and various prizes from sponsors.
The arm-wrestlers will be educated on the rules of the game and undergo a five-day training with an armwrestling trainer assigned by the World Armwrestling Federation.
The armwrestling instructor will in turn train referees and coaches as well as train the media on armwrestling reporting.
The Ghana Armwrestling Federation was founded in July 2016 and has been in existence for less than 10 months.
Speaking to GhanaSportsMail, Mr. Osei Asibey expressed confidence in armwrestling being next to football in a year.
