The protest which was supposed to be held at the premises of TV3 failed because the company managed to secure an injunction from the court to restrain the sacked workers and members of PSWU from picketing at their premises.
This was followed by heavy security presence at TV3 as policemen and soldiers armed with weapons converged there to deter and arrest anyone who defies the directive or show up at the office.
It will be recalled that on 21st of February 2017, over 30 unionised workers of TV3 Network Limited were dismissed by the company’s management for engaging in unfair labour practices by breaching the ethics and legal requirements regarding the employer/employee relationship.
According to the workers, they were sacked after demanding better working conditions of service over their low salaries.
But management of TV3 on addressing the issue said the dismissed staff took part in a series of action spanning about a week without serving notice of their intentions to management and without providing management with an opportunity with the aggrieved personnel.
In their statement issued, they said the dismissed workers were writing threatening statements on staircase threatening dire action, hoisting of red flags on the transmission and other places inside the premises and wearing of red attire and armbands signifying support for the disruption of the work process.
