It said henceforth, only companies owned by Ghanaians will be awarded contracts to print educational materials in the country in order to generate employment for the masses who voted for the current government with the hopes of it transforming the weak economy. Minister of Education, Dr. Mattew Opoku Prempeh told select journalists in Kumasi on Saturday.
‘Education for jobs: in the area of jobs what are we going to do? We print a lot of exercise books and we have taken a decision that exercise books at least be printed in every region. It will create jobs. Nowhere will excise book will be imported under Nana Akufo-Addo government”
‘If you want to distribute or print excise books you should be a citizen of Ghana and even if you establish a company it should be owned by a citizen of Ghana. We are no longer going to create jobs for foreigners”, he revealed.
The Education Minister also reiterated that come September this year, every Junior High School Student who passes his or her Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will enter a government Senior High School (SHS) without paying fees
“Local seamstresses should get prepared, you have jobs. If you are in Ashanti Region or any part of the country you will sow their school uniforms”
The minister also revealed all technical and vocational education is now under the Ministry of Education
He pointed out that funds are now available to finance the government’ free education policy asking the people to reject opinions that the policy will decrease quality of education in the country.
