WAFU B President and Ghana FA boss Kurt Okraku has reaffirmed his commitment to developing young referees across the region after opening a training workshop at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
The workshop, which targets emerging refereeing talent, forms part of efforts to strengthen football development in West Africa. It brings together young officials, including participants from Ghana’s “Catch Them Young” programme, to gain practical experience and technical guidance.
The CAF 2nd Vice President described the initiative as a key step in building a strong foundation for the future of the game, noting the importance of investing in officiating standards.
“I am particularly pleased to see some of our promising âCatch Them Young’ referees participating in this programme, gaining valuable exposure that will prepare them for higher levels,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to WAFU B and its Executive Director, Philippe Tchere, for organising the workshop in Ghana, praising their commitment to referee development in the sub-region.
Okraku urged participants to take full advantage of the opportunity, stressing the need for professionalism and dedication.
He added that the growth of African football depends on young officials who are committed to excellence both on and off the pitch.
