Former Ghana international Mohammed Polo believes only Benjamin Asare from the Ghana Premier League currently has the quality to make the Black Stars squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to Connect FM, Polo criticised the overall standard of the domestic league, claiming the quality has declined significantly in recent years.
According to the former Hearts of Oak winger, performances in the league’s biggest matches reflect the drop in standards.
"Apart from Benjamin Asare, no Ghana Premier League player is quality enough to be at the 2026 FIFA World Cup," Polo said.
"The quality of the Ghana Premier League has gone down drastically. I watched the Super Clash the other time and didn’t enjoy it because the players weren’t good enough."
Polo also pointed to the recent Super Clash between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko as an example.
"Despite the red card to Hearts of Oak in the game, Asante Kotoko couldn’t create anything significant, and it all comes down to quality," he added.
His comments come amid ongoing debate about the level of talent in the Ghana Premier League and the limited number of locally based players breaking into the Black Stars squad.
Ghana have been drawn in a group with Panama, Croatia and England at the World Cup.
