Former Ghana Football Association vice president George Afriyie has dismissed reports suggesting he is in line to become the next Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko.
Speculation has intensified in recent weeks that the seasoned football administrator could be appointed to lead the Ghana Premier League giants ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The reports come amid expectations that the club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC), headed by Nana Apinkrah Akwasi Awuah, will be dissolved at the conclusion of the ongoing 2025/26 season to make way for a substantive board and a new CEO.
However, Afriyie has moved swiftly to distance himself from the claims.
"No doubt, Asante Kotoko is a big club with a rich history but at the moment, I am not in the race to become the new CEO of the club," Mr Afriyie said.
He acknowledged that there may have been discussions in certain circles, but insisted no official approach has been made.
"Perhaps there have been conversations around some quarters, but as it stands, no one has spoken to me to become the Chief Executive Officer of the club. I have friends there, but nothing has been discussed," he added.
Afriyie remains one of Ghana’s most experienced football administrators. Over the years, he has held several key positions, including serving with Swedru All Blacks and acting as Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, among other influential roles within the domestic game.
