Retired FIFA referee William Agbovi has called on Ghanaians to continue supporting and encouraging FIFA referee Daniel Laryea, following his recent performance on the international stage.
Laryea recently officiated at the AFCON 2025 in Morocco, where he also served as a VAR official. His steady rise, according to Agbovi, is a sign of progress for Ghanaian refereeing.
“We have to help him if Ghana we had two or three people the way he is going if they also followed his steps especially the assistants because some of the Afcons we played recently some came with their assistant referees. So if we work hard and help him the prelims going on like this definitely a Ghanaian referee will be used if they start like this," as aired by Peace FM
"When it gets into the money zone he will get some assistants from other countries. I am not saying we should be praising him everyday he is human he will make mistakes. We should correct him so we should keep on encouraging him when it is going on like this the focus will be on Ghana and the question will be who else should we support especially the assistant referees.
"It will be beautiful that the next afcon he will get two assistant referees going with him. There the communication will be best because he has officiated with them for long so when it gets to that level it helps. I will plead he is number one in the country now i dont know in Africa his ranking."
