Former Black Stars midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has spoken about the long-standing strain in his relationship with his brother Jerome Boateng, citing jealousy and contrasting career paths.
The former AC Milan and Barcelona forward explained that tension between the siblings dates back to their childhood, when they struggled to form a close bond.
Kevin-Prince said differences in personality and competitiveness created distance early, which later deepened as Jerome’s career accelerated at club and international level.
Jerome went on to win major honours with Bayern Munich and Germany, including the 2014 FIFA World Cup, while Kevin-Prince followed a more turbulent path.
Reflecting on that contrast, the former Ghana international admitted he struggled to accept his brother’s rise and questioned whether it was deserved.
“We never had a good relationship because we were very opposite like he was very competitive over me. Then I saw him become a superstar and I always felt that he didn't deserve it," he told Andreas Poke.
“Because I was the one taking bad steps, he could follow me and avoid the bad steps so I made the pathway for him so I felt he didn't deserve it.
“So I was bitter about it, anyways i went to ask him for forgiveness as well that if I was ever jealous or if I didn't want him to deserve it I asked him for forgiveness but we still don't have a connection.”
Despite apologising, he admitted the relationship remains distant, with no meaningful bond restored between the brothers.
