Dutch-born forward of Ghanaian descent, Don-Angelo Konadu, marked his UEFA Champions League debut on Wednesday evening, providing a key assist to help Ajax to defeat Qarabag 4-2.
The 19-year-old missed out on a starting role on the matchday but was introduced into the contest in the 65th minute, replacing striker Kasper Dolberg.
On the matchday, Qarabag opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Camilo Duran picked up a pass on the edge of the box and lifted a fine lob over the goalkeeper.
Ajax responded before the break through Kasper Dolberg, whose powerful strike inside the left post brought the Dutch giants level in the 39th minute. Shortly after halftime, Matheus Silva restored Qarabag’s lead with a deflected effort that wrong-footed Vitezslav Jaros.
Ajax continued to push and found another equaliser in the 79th minute when Oscar Gloukh guided a low shot into the bottom right corner after being set up by Lucas Rosa. The breakthrough moment arrived in the 83rd minute, with Konadu playing a pivotal role.
His composed build-up play created the opening for Anton Gaaei, who unleashed a superb effort into the top left corner to give Ajax a 3-2 advantage.
Later in the 90th minute, Oscar Gloukh put the icing on the cake, scoring to seal a 4-2 victory for Ajax.
