Stephen Appiah has urged Ghana football authorities to improve the management of young talent following the return of the Milo U13 Championship after a six-year hiatus.
The tournament’s revival was marked by a historic win for Adrobaa Roman Catholic Basic School, who defeated Franko International School 2-0 in the final at Paa Joe Park.
The sixth edition of the competition saw Adrobaa crowned champions for the first time, taking home GHS50,000 and a trophy presented by legendary Abedi Pele Ayew.
Appiah, who attended the final, emphasised the need to nurture and retain young players.
“At times it saddens my heart that after this tournament where are they going? So we have to do something to keep these boys. They are doing it in Europe,” he said.
“At times I'm worried that the current generation if they are not playing for the national team who are going to replace them? But through Milo I think that we still have hope that the future is bright for Ghana football.”
The Milo U13 Championship, with its return, provides a platform for discovering and fostering the stars of tomorrow.
