The Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, says the government’s 2026 World Cup committee has been created to prevent key agencies from operating in silos.
He stressed that a unified structure is essential as Ghana prepares for the expanded tournament in Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
Adams explained that cabinet approved the committee to coordinate every strand of work tied to Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance.
"At the last cabinet meeting, a decision was made to set up a team of this nature to oversee the general planning of activities coordinating Ghana’s participation at the World Cup.
"It is necessary to ensure proper coordination between the technical and all other individual components so that we do not work in silos."
The committee was inaugurated at the Jubilee House and will oversee Ghana’s full preparation programme ahead of the 2026 finals.
The body includes government officials such as Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Xoese Dogbe and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel O. Ablakwa. GFA President Kurt Okraku has also been named to the panel.
Youth Development Minister George Opare and Deputy Tourism and Culture Minister Yusif Jajah are members of the team. Deputy Finance Minister Ampem Nyarkoh is also part of the group, reflecting the financial commitments involved.
Former Ghana captain Abedi Pele brings football expertise to the committee, which also includes Elizabeth Yankah from National Security. Sports Ministry Chief Director Wilhelmina Asamoah serves as a member as well.
One representative from the private sector will join later to support wider collaboration and resource mobilisation for the national effort.
