Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has not been involved in contract discussions with the club for some time, raising questions about his future at Old Trafford.
Reports indicate that the 20-year-old is considering a move in January as he seeks regular game time ahead of next year’s World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
Mainoo, an England international of Ghanaian heritage, has struggled for minutes this season, failing to start a Premier League match.
He played just 138 minutes across the league campaign, prompting speculation over a potential transfer to secure more consistent playing opportunities.
Journalist David Ornstein has revealed that contract negotiations have effectively stalled, with Mainoo’s current deal running until 2027 and an option for a one-year extension.
“There’s been no progress on talks over a new contract⦠there’s not really been talks for quite a long time,” Ornstein noted, highlighting the growing uncertainty surrounding the young midfielder.
Mainoo sought a loan move during the summer, but manager Ruben Amorim blocked the transfer, insisting the player remain and compete for a place in the squad.
Despite the lack of opportunities, Amorim has maintained that he wants Mainoo to fight for minutes, though the midfielder appears increasingly determined to leave.
Ornstein added that Mainoo’s comparatively low salary could make him an attractive target for clubs, particularly in Serie A, where interest is reportedly intensifying.
