Ghana’s Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has warned that the country must approach the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a forward-looking mindset, not repeating past mistakes.
Speaking at the inauguration of the government’s 2026 World Cup committee on Wednesday at the Jubilee House, Debrah urged unified planning and decisive action to ensure national success.
Debrah said, “We cannot afford to enter 2026 with the mindset of 2014 and 2010. Let us correct what must be corrected and amplify what can be built. Let us lead with clarity. Let us act with urgency. Let us project Ghana with discipline and pride.”
The eleven-member committee, tasked with coordinating Ghana’s participation in the tournament, includes senior officials such as Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Xoese Dogbe and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel O. Ablakwa.
Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams, Youth Development Minister George Opare, Deputy Tourism and Culture Minister Yusif Jajah, and Deputy Finance Minister Ampem Nyarkoh also serve on the panel.
Football expertise is provided by Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku and former Ghana captain Abedi Pele.
Deputy National Security Coordinator Elizabeth Yankah and Sports Ministry Chief Director Wilhelmina Asamoah complete the team.
An additional representative from the private sector will be appointed later.
Government has already allocated 150 million Ghana cedis to support the team’s preparations, underlining the importance of a well-coordinated campaign.
Ghana secured qualification for the Canada, USA, and Mexico tournament in emphatic style, marking its fifth World Cup appearance.
