Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito expressed disappointment after his team conceded what he described as a “stoppable goal” in their 2-1 Ghana Premier League victory over Young Apostles at the Baba Yara Stadium on Wednesday.
Kotoko had taken the lead in the 50th minute through a thunderous strike from midfielder Hubert Gyau. However, their advantage was short-lived, as Richmond Opoku capitalised on a defensive lapse to score a header just two minutes later, levelling the match. Kotoko eventually secured the win in stoppage time, with captain Samba “O’Neil” Gilbani converting a penalty in the 97th minute.
Despite the victory, Zito remained critical of the goal conceded, highlighting the need for his side to maintain concentration and defensive discipline.
"The equalising goal was a little bit of a defensive error; it was stoppable," Zito said. "We have stoppable goals, goals that we can stop, then we have workable goals that you can’t stop, and when you look at the goal scored against us, it was a stoppable goal, so I was sad, I wasn’t happy about it."
Kotoko, now unbeaten in nine league games, will face FC Samartex on Sunday, November 23, in Samreboi, as Zito looks to tighten his side’s defensive resolve while maintaining their strong start to the season.
