Asante Kotoko striker Albert Amoah is facing a race against time to be fit for Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup second-leg tie against Wydad Athletic Club in Morocco.
The in-form forward, who has netted four goals in five matches this season, struggled with a recurring ankle injury during the first leg in Accra, where Kotoko fell 1-0 to the Moroccan giants.
Amoah had trained only once in the build-up to that game and was cleared after a late fitness test, but his impact was limited as he appeared to be in discomfort for most of the contest.
Early in the second half, the striker took another knock and was visibly limping until the final whistle. The injury stems from Kotoko’s 2-0 league victory over Bibiani Gold Stars in Kumasi, where he sustained a heavy challenge that forced him off in the 70th minute.
Head coach Karim Zito declined to comment on the extent of Amoah’s condition, though reports suggest his recovery is uncertain.
Kotoko’s attacking options remain depleted, with Saaka Dauda, Kwame Opoku, and Baba Yahaya also sidelined. Should Amoah miss the trip to Casablanca, new signing Donzo Morifing is expected to lead the line despite being yet to score in four appearances.
