The British Deputy High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency Keith McMahon, has expressed regret that Liverpool did not sign Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus during the summer transfer window.
Liverpool opted to bring in German playmaker Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen before the season began, but the 22-year-old has yet to find form, going 11 matches without a goal under manager Arne Slot. His slow start has drawn growing criticism from sections of the club’s supporters.
Speaking in an interview with TV3, McMahon, a self-confessed Liverpool supporter, said he would have preferred Kudus instead.
“[Mohammed] Kudus. The man is amazing,” McMahon said. “I don’t know why we didn’t buy him from West Ham. I would have bought him before Wirtz.”
Kudus, who left West Ham United for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, has made a strong start to life in North London, contributing one goal and four assists in eight Premier League appearances.
The Ghanaian’s performances have further fueled debate among Liverpool fans about what could have been had the club pursued him instead of Wirtz.
