Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has challenged Ghanaian football stakeholders to welcome constructive criticism, insisting it is aimed at improving the game’s fortunes rather than undermining it.
Speaking on Citi FM, Adams said some sports federations appear to exist mainly for travel opportunities rather than to develop their disciplines.
While he singled out football as the most organized sport in Ghana, he noted that major challenges persist, including low patronage at league matches, poor playing surfaces and rising incidents of fan violence.
“The most organized sports⦠or the federation (GFA) itself has serious challenges,” Adams stated. “I have had course sometimes to speak in a manner that some club owners have not been happy but I was rather trying to help because I was wondering whether they are aware that football is big business.”
He stressed that his call for higher standards is rooted in the belief that Ghana’s football sector can generate far more than it currently does.
“When you call on them to do what is right, they feel like you’re being too hard on them but I’m doing so because I see a bigger opportunity for them. The federation leadership has their responsibility no doubt about that,” he said.
Adams reiterated that fixing these issues would strengthen the sport’s commercial appeal and benefit clubs, players and fans alike.
