Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has set his sights on revenge when his side faces Bibiani Gold Stars in the Champion of Champions clash this Sunday, August 31, at the Dun’s Park in Bibiani. Kick-off is at 15:00 GMT.
The fixture brings together the MTN FA Cup winners Kotoko and the Ghana Premier League champions Gold Stars in the traditional curtain raiser to usher in the 2025/26 season.
This will be the second meeting between the two clubs in just over a week, after Gold Stars edged Kotoko 2-1 in the GHALCA Top 4 final â a defeat that left the Porcupine Warriors frustrated. An own goal by defender Henry Ansu handed Gold Stars the title in that encounter.
Speaking to GFA media ahead of the showdown, Zito made it clear that his side is motivated to settle the score.
“It will be a very difficult match. As you know, they also beat us in the Top 4 so it will be a revenge⦠we would also like to beat them to make it equal. The game on Sunday will be preparation for the Confederation Cup,” Zito said.
Kotoko endured a difficult Top 4 campaign, going winless in three matches, and see the Champion of Champions duel as an opportunity to reset before their CAF Confederation Cup clash with Nigeria’s Kwara United on September 19.
For the fans, Sunday’s contest offers both a chance at early silverware and a preview of Kotoko’s readiness for continental competition under Zito.
