The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service have renewed their commitment to working hand in hand to protect the integrity of Ghana football.
This was the focus when GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku paid a courtesy call on the Director-General of the CID, COP Lydia Yaa Donkor, at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Monday, August 25, 2025.
With the 2025/26 season approaching, discussions centered on tackling some of the game’s biggest threatsâmatch manipulation, illegal betting and hooliganism.
President Simeon-Okraku congratulated COP Donkor on her elevation and praised her past contributions to football as Head of Safety and Security at the GFA. He stressed the need for strong collaboration with the Police Service to build a safer and more transparent football environment.
“As we prepare for a new season, we want to strengthen our relationship with the Police Service to fight match manipulation, clamp down on illegal betting, and root out hooliganism from our game,” he said.
COP Donkor, on her part, welcomed the delegation and assured the FA of the CID’s full support. “Football is a national treasure and a source of unity and pride. The Police Service, through the CID, will continue to stand with the GFA in dealing with challenges such as corruption, violence at venues and illegal betting,” she noted.
The visit was part of the GFA’s wider engagement with stakeholders ahead of the new campaign. The 2025/26 Premier League kicks off on Friday, September 12, 2025.
