Ghanaian youngster Edward Opoku has praised the influence of his compatriots Jonathan Mensah, Lalas Abubakar and Harrison Afful in his first MLS season with Columbus Crew.
The 22 year old admits, having familiar faces around has been "helpful" as he broke into the Columbus Crew team last season.
According to the former University of Virginia forward, he grew up watching the likes of Mensah and Afful so it was exciting being around them.
"It's helpful having familiar faces around and people around who I grew up watching on TV. They've been supportive and helpful to me on and off the field by telling me how to succeed professionally. It's also fun to be able to joke around," he exclusively told GHANASoccernet.com.
The Konogo born forward had a stellar season in 2018 for the Black and Gold's after making his senior debut against Orlando City, going on to make more appearances in the just ended season. '
Opoku, who is yet to become a regular for Columbus Crew believes the experience from the campaign will propel him to higher heights next season, where he is convinced of becoming a starter.
"The goal is always to get more playing time and to hopefully in the future to break into the team and be a regular starter, but that's not something i'm thinking about right now. My goal is to keep improving every day as a player and to learn from the guys and gradually make my presence more permanent on the roster," he added.
