Egyptian side Ismaily moved to the brink of sealing a place in the 2018/2019 CAF Champions League round of 32 after defeating Burundi's Le Messager 1-0 away on Wednesday.
Defender Tarek Taha scored the winner in the 56th minute with a sublime long-range free-kick which left the keeper with no chance.
The second leg will take place next week in Ismailia city.
Ismaily who are making their first Champions League appearance in eight years, are one of two Egyptian representatives in the competition along with Cairo giants Ahly.
Ahly, who lost in the final of the past two editions, were given a bye to the round of 32.
