Kenya captain Musa Mohammed believes they have a chance of qualifying for the 2019 African Cup of Nation (AFCON) in Cameroon following their win over Ghana on Saturday.
The Harambee Stars of Kenya defied all odds to inflict a 1-0 defeat on the Black Stars of Ghana on matchday two of the AFCON qualifiers at the MISC Kasarani Stadiun in Nairobi.
Musa, who was handed the captain's duty in the absence of Victor Wanyama, said he was not surprised at the outcome of the game as they will aim to build on it to book their ticket to the competition.
Musa says the dynamics of football have changed and there are no easy games anymore.
"Football has changed and you never know if you will win or lose before match is played since there are no big or small teams anymore. This is the kind of attitude we went in with for the match against Ghana. The attitude in camp was good and I could tell everyone was eager to win. I am happy it all worked according to plan." Musa said.
Musa also lauded his teammates and reserved special praises for fellow center-back Joash Onyango. Harambee Stars had to finish the match a man less as the Gor Mahia defender was sent off.
"It feels good to captain the team and win the match. I want to thank God and my teammates for the three points. They worked so hard and deserve the three points. Once Joash was red card we had to adjust quickly and work harder. But we have really thanked him, he did what he had to do and that is part of football." Musa said.
"The group is now open and our target is to get maximum points in the next two matches. If we manage that then I believe we will be safe." He concluded.
Harambee Stars will next face Ethiopia in a two-legged tie home and away in October before taking on Sierra Leone in November.
